The Paper Manufacturers Association of South Africa (PAMSA), established in 1992, is renowned for advocating paper as a renewable and recyclable material for various applications, including packaging and communication. Representing over 90% of South Africa’s paper, packaging, and tissue manufacturers, PAMSA is often referred to as the ‘voice of the pulp and paper industry.’

About the Bursary Programme: PAMSA invites students to apply for their Bursary and Research Programme for the 2025 – 2026 academic years. The bursary will support studies towards a Masters in Chemical Engineering at a registered South African university.

Coverage and Selection: The bursary will cover two years of full-time study, focusing on projects related to the beneficiation of wood fibre, recycled fibre, or process waste, as well as resource efficiency. Bursary recipients may also be offered employment as engineer-in-training at participating PAMSA member companies. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to attend an interview, while unsuccessful applicants will not receive feedback.

Requirements

Applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Preferably be a South African citizen.
  • Be in the final year of BEng/BSc Chemical Engineering studies or have completed a BEng/BSc Chemical Engineering degree.
  • Complete studies in five years or less.
  • Intend to study towards a Masters in Chemical Engineering in 2025.
  • Study at a recognized and accredited university in South Africa.
  • Have a strong academic record with a minimum overall average of 60% in the final year.
