The City of Johannesburg (CoJ), through its Environmental and Infrastructure Service Department (EISD), is offering exciting Internship opportunities for a period not exceeding 18 months. If you are a recent graduate looking to gain hands-on experience in climate change adaptation, this is your chance!
Internship Details
- Department: Environmental and Infrastructure Service Department (EISD)
- Branch: Air Quality and Climate Change
- Designation: Internship: Climate Change Adaptation
- Location: Traduna House, 118 Jorissen Street, Braamfontein
- Remuneration: R9 960.45 per month (Basic Salary, no benefits)
Minimum Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 / NQF Level 4
- A Degree in Environmental Management, Environmental Sciences, Energy Studies, or a related field (NQF Level 7)
- Must be a resident of the City of Johannesburg
Primary Function
The intern will facilitate and coordinate climate change initiatives within the city. This includes developing policies, strategies, and plans to ensure that climate change adaptation measures are implemented effectively within Johannesburg.
Key Performance Areas
As an intern, your responsibilities will include:
- Administration and record-keeping
- Providing support in developing the city’s Climate Action Tracking tools
- Compiling reports summarizing findings and recommendations from site visits
Skills & Competencies Required
Leading Competencies:
- Computer literacy (MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Good communication skills
- Project management skills
- Coordination and report writing skills
Core Competencies:
- Basic knowledge of Climate Change Science
- Understanding of the Climate Change Act
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Strong ethics, integrity, and attention to detail
- Commitment to customer and service delivery management (Batho Pele principles)
