The KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) government is offering bursaries to students residing in the province for the 2025 academic year. If you are a young South African seeking financial assistance for your studies, this bursary could be your gateway to achieving your academic goals.
Fields of Study Covered
The bursary is available for students pursuing studies in the following departments:
Department of Human Settlements:
- Construction Studies / Management
Department of Agriculture and Rural Development:
- Agricultural Engineering (BSc)
- Industrial Engineering (National Diploma)
- Veterinary Technologist (National Diploma)
- Veterinary Science (BVSc)
Department of Transport:
- Civil Engineering (BSc)
- Transport and Logistics (Degree)
- Transport Economics (Degree)
- Marine Engineering (BSc)
- Maritime Studies (Degree)
Bursary Coverage
The bursary will cover the following expenses:
- Tuition fees
- Meals or a stipend
- Accommodation
- Prescribed textbooks (where necessary)
Successful applicants will sign a bursary contract with the KZN government, committing to work for the relevant department for the same duration as the bursary funding period.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify:
- Be between 18 and 35 years old
- Be a resident of KwaZulu-Natal
- Have completed Matric
- Be studying or planning to study full-time in one of the specified fields in 2025
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a recognized South African public tertiary institution
- Preference will be given to students studying within KwaZulu-Natal
- Youth with disabilities are encouraged to apply

- South African ID
- Matric certificate
- Most recent academic results (if currently studying)
- Proof of registration or acceptance at a public institution
- ID documents or death certificates of parents/guardians
- Proof of household income (payslips, unemployment letter, grant or pension proof)
- Proof of residence in KwaZulu-Natal (ward councillor confirmation)
- Profiling certificate (if applicable)
