This roles resides within the Vodacom Talent Capability and Skills Transformation area.

This CoE is responsible for:

  • Work closely with Vodafone Talent and Performance Management teams to ensure that Vodacom stays aligned with Vodafone practices
  • Hold regular community calls with the Markets to ensure that they stay abreast of any changes in the Talent and Performance domains
  • Develop a Vodacom Africa Talent and Performance communications plan, which is aligned with the Vodafone communications plan and share with markets
  • Run capability build sessions with the Market Talent and Performance Leads
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition to ensure the buy strategy is fully integrated into overall talent strategy
  • Develop talent mobility strategies that will enable flexibility of talent movement across the Vodacom Markets
  • Develop talent mobility framework and governance, which is aligned to the Vodafone strategy
  • Work closely with Emerging Youth Talent to ensure that pipeline is aligned to organization’s TechCo transformation
  • Partner with Market Talent Leads to ensure that there is clear succession planning for all scarce and critical roles
  • Develop Specialists Career Paths
  • Develop performance management framework (minimum standards) – Drive high performance culture
  • Drive implementation of key initiatives and programs within the Talent space
  • Partner with Rewards to develop retention strategy / framework for talent
  • Support EHOD Talent and Capability with Talent Reviews and Performance Calibrations across the Markets
  • Provide data analytics and insights to enable organisation to make informed Talent decisions

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • A degree/3-year diploma (e.g. Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Business Management, etc.) – essential
  • A post-graduate qualification will be advantageous
  • Demonstrated 8+ years’ experience working in HR in Talent and Performance Management

Senior Specialist: Privacy

Job Description

Role Purpose/Business Unit:

(Note: the role will be part of a team of 5 senior specialist fulfilling one or more of the following on a rotational basis)

  • To identify, document and assess Vodacom SA’s existing  processing of personal information activities(and changes in such activities) in order to identify privacy risks and issues and assist business operations to mitigate same and implement appropriate privacy control measures.
  • To conduct privacy impact assessments (Privacy by Design & Assurance) of new processes, products and systems to be launched by Vodacom SA in order to to identify privacy risks and issues and assist business operations to mitigate same and implement appropriate privacy control measures before launch.
  • To assist in the development, implementation and rollout of the privacy program elements and controls across Vodacom SA and its subsidaries in order minimize compliance risks and  ensuring adherence to Vodacom/Vodafone privacy frameworks, policies, standards and methodologies. Support the Privacy Governance, Risk and Control (GRC) function to execute on their privacy control monitoring, risk management, assurance and reporting activities.
  • To assist in Vodacom SA privacy counsel and governance activities, which includes setting out data processing agreements; monitoring regulatory/legislative developments; updating company policies, processes and procedures in line with new privacy requirements; supporting data subjects in exercising their privacy rights; and supporting regulatory engagement activities (such as compliance reviews and addressing privacy complaints).
  • To assist in the development and fulfilment of privacy training and awareness initiatives across the Vodacom SA privacy capabilities.
  • To support the customisation and adoption of the above for purposes of Vodacom group-wide adoption and application.

Your responsibilities will include:

Personal Data Processing Register(PDPR)

  • Ensure the PDPR is maintained and up-to-date in line with Vodacom standards and methodologies, including but not limited to the linking of business processes and data flow maps. Moreover, identify and conduct privacy assessments on existing processes, products & assets processing personal information in line with Vodacom SA requirements and quality assurance standards.

Conduct Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs): 

  • Assess privacy risks for new projects, systems, or processes, and recommend risk mitigation strategies. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and integrate privacy considerations into new processing activities. Collaborate with technical teams to implement privacy-by-design principles and perform technical assessments of systems, applications, and infrastructure to ensure compliance with privacy requirements.

Conduct Privacy Training and Awareness: 

  • Deliver privacy training and awareness initiatives, educating employees on policies, regulations, and best practices. Foster a privacy-conscious culture

Compliance, Monitoring, Reporting

  • Conduct privacy assurance reviews and assessments, including self assessments (evidence based testing) of privacy activities and controls and communicate critical risks and issues to management. Perform oversight of remedial actions to address privacy risks and issues identified. Prepare privacy reports for various stakeholders and committees (including the Vodacom Group Privacy Steering Committee, Privacy KPI quarterly reporting). Monitor the implementation of the privacy program by Vodacom SA subsidiaries.

Privacy compliance/legal advisory and support

  • Provide privacy compliance/legal advisory and support to Vodacom SA’s business operations, which includes adherence to the Protection of Personal Information Act, No 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Supplier Compliance/Data Processing Agreements (DPA)

  • Assess suppliers involved in the processing of personal information to ensure that same is compliant and risk rated and supplier inventories are created accordingly.  Moreover, ensure an up to date register of all data processing agreements for these suppliers  is available and up-to-date.

Engagement with regulators and external parties on privacy matters

  • Assist in actioning/resolving regulator requests and queries, including the reporting of privacy incidents and responding to privacy complaints raised through the regulator. Moreover, assist in actioning/resolving customer privacy complaints.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Strong educational background in a relevant field such as Legal/Compliance/Information technology/Engineering/Commercial/Business degree or privacy-related disciplines ( NQF 7 equivalent).
  • Additional professional relevant certification will be an advantage such as CIPP/E, CIPT, or CIPM from the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
  • A minimum of 5 years relevant experience essential, with exposure to the following:

Role Purpose/Business Unit:

The purpose of the role is to ensure the end-to-end management of compliance and financial services risk governance, including MI reporting for the Group Compliance and FS Risk functions across the Vodacom Group operating markets.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Research, analyse, interpret and advice on compliance and risk, technical information, and applicable laws as it relates to the compliance-owned programmes and FS Risk;
  • Drive and support the Managing Executive on the execution of strategic and operational projects;
  • Review analyse and opine for approval and all Policy Dispensation, Waivers and Deviations, Breaches with the markets Policy Champions, CEO’s and MDs and maintenance of the required registers across the Compliance and FS Risk Programme;
  • Ensure that all policies across the Second Line of Defense across the Group are maintained and timeously updated in line with changes from Vodafone and VGL;
  • Engage the local international markets and subsidiaries across the Group to ensure the Reporting Standards are met and consistency of approach in terms of reporting;
  • Collate and analyse information from various sources to assess the adequacy and effectiveness of internal compliance controls across the markets, including the use of data analytics and newer technologies for the preparation of compliance and risk reports;
  • Preparation and compilation of monthly, quarterly, annual compliance and risk reports, and ad hoc reports and presentations using compliance and operational data across the Group with insights;
  • Perform data mining and perform analysis of the overall compliance and risk environment to meet the needs for compliance reporting.
  • Develop, administer and monitor the Compliance and Risk Calendar, ensuring organisational compliance is maintained throughout the year;
  • Provide professional support to the Group Compliance and FS Risk Function to ensure the smooth running of Compliance and risk management governance and reporting processes;
  • Act as the Group Compliance and FS Risk liaison across telecommunications, M-Pesa and Financial Services businesses, including Vodafone.

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Relevant Legal or Commerce Degree;
  • Sound understanding of compliance and risk management principles;
  • Microsoft Office Specialist Word and Advanced PowerPoint certification and competent in Microsoft products, including Co-Pilot.
  • SQL and Power BI scripting and Python scripting are advantageous.
  • Minimum 8 -10 years of relevant compliance and risk management experience (Essential)
  • Telecommunication and Financial Services and experience (Advantageous)

The principal specialist (assistant company secretarial) role is a board governance role within Vodacom South Africa, and with a functional reporting line to the company secretary of Vodacom South Africa. The role requires high standards of professional conduct and diligence to ensure that:

  • Companies’ compliance with the Companies Act, JSE Listings Requirements, King IV, and all other governance and statutory requirements;
  • Statutory records are maintained and returns are timeously filed with CIPC;

  • Prepared to travel (African countries) if required

  • We are seeking a vibrant and dynamic executive to join our in-house Corporate M&A. The ideal candidate will be comfortable operating across various levels of seniority and possess the ability to engage in both technical and operational matters. This role is crucial in executing Vodacom’s inorganic growth aspirations across the 8 African countries where we have a presence.
  • Areas of focus include mobile network operations, fintech investment, the development of infrastructure assets including Towers, fibre and data centres, information and communication technologies, and new opportunities.

Your responsibilities will include:

Evaluate merger and acquisition opportunities

  • Develop and execute M&A and corporate development strategies to support Vodacom’s growth objectives.
  • Consider, review, and recommend for evaluation, selected merger and acquisition opportunities based on criteria such as targeted countries or regions, potential revenue, size of economy, etc., specifically focusing on Rest of Africa.
  • Play a lead role in initiating and co-ordinating the evaluation of selected M&A opportunities – providing direction to business heads, supervising input from external advisors, co-ordinating compliance, tax, due diligence, financial, legal, etc., requirements.
  • Liaise with Vodafone M&A business heads, with internal technical specialists (legal, tax, etc.) and with local company/operating company business line leaders, as necessary.
  • Maintain up-to-date valuation scenario analysis on specific M&A targets. Build & maintain a knowledge management system and processes, to maintain up-to-date valuation scenario analysis, including tracking other transactions in the sector or valuation multiples of other companies in the sector.

Evaluate disinvestments    

  • Evaluate selected disinvestment proposals based on internal directives.
  • Review the business case for disinvestment assessing factors such as rationale for disinvesting the business concerned, financial impact, strategic reasons why the business should not be retained within the group, etc.
  • Evaluate potential purchasers’ ability to absorb the business, meet proposed terms and conditions, due diligence, etc.

Function as corporate financial advisor to Vodacom Group 

  • Provide corporate financial advice as required (DCF and impairment calculations, weighted cost of capital data, cash generation calculations, etc.) funding analysis, to support the finance/accounting function. (Provided via ME and Chief Officer to Board/Exco).

  • Lead & engage the organization in the process of identifying business opportunities.
  • Co-ordinate the collection of information, forecasts, and analysis of market dynamics to formulate business evaluations of opportunities.
  • Identify & develop the supporting business case underpinning the opportunity.
  • Challenge the financial & commercial information provided to ensure its rigour, consistency & integrity.
  • Work with internal & external advisors to develop the optimal deal structure.
  • Make decisions & negotiate with external parties based on legal, financial, and operational advice on the key deal parameters.

  • Engagement and contracting of external parties

Leadership    

  • Management & supervision of project outputs & productivity

The ideal candidate for this role will have:

  • Master’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field; MBA, CA (SA), or CFA.
  • Proven experience in M&A, corporate development, investment banking, management consulting, or corporate law
  • Strong analytical, financial modelling, and valuation skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
  • Minimum of 10 years experience in a financial, corporate finance, investment banking, financial services, or corporate law role.
