The Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA) is calling on previously disadvantaged South Africans to apply for its 2025 Employed Learnership Programme. This programme is a fantastic chance for young, motivated individuals who are already working in the property sector to gain a nationally recognised qualification and build a strong foundation for their real estate careers.
What is the PPRA Learnership Programme?
The PPRA’s learnership initiative is called the “One Learner – One Property Practitioner Programme.” It aims to train and develop 34 candidate property practitioners through a 10-month structured learning experience. The programme offers a Further Education and Training Certificate in Real Estate (NQF Level 4), registered with the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA ID: 59097).
This learnership is designed to give learners both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills necessary to thrive in the real estate industry. Through this, the PPRA supports work readiness and helps bridge the gap between education and employment in a competitive sector.
Who Should Apply?
The programme is specifically aimed at individuals who are currently employed in the property industry but want to formalise their skills with a qualification. It’s an excellent opportunity for previously disadvantaged learners who meet the following criteria:
- Minimum Education: Must have completed Grade 11 or Matric.
- Age Limit: Must be 35 years or younger.
- Employment: Must be employed by a property firm and able to provide a letter confirming this.
- Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC): Must hold a current FFC for the application year.
The Fidelity Fund Certificate is crucial as it is a legal requirement for anyone practising as a property practitioner in South Africa. The FFC certifies that the individual is registered and compliant with the rules of the property industry.
What Does the Learnership Involve?
This is a 10-month candidacy programme where learners will be trained both on the job and through formal instruction. The programme is fully structured and seeks to produce candidates who are ready to enter the property sector as competent professionals.
Although the learnership is employed-based, the programme does not provide a stipend. However, participants will gain valuable experience, a nationally recognised certificate, and enhanced career prospects that far outweigh the short-term lack of a stipend.
What Documents Are Needed to Apply?
To apply successfully, candidates must submit a complete application including:
- A certified copy of their South African ID
- Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Certified copies of their Grade 11 or Matric certificate
- A current Fidelity Fund Certificate (FFC)
- A letter from their employer confirming employment at a property firm
Incomplete applications or those missing any of these documents will not be considered.
How to Apply?
Candidates interested in applying for the PPRA Learnership Programme should email their application documents to onelearner@theppra.org.za. It’s important to use the subject line: REF: LP02/01/2025 when sending your email.
The closing date for applications is 03 June 2025. If applicants do not hear back within two weeks after the closing date, they should assume their application was unsuccessful.
Why Is This Learnership Important?
The real estate sector in South Africa is a significant contributor to the economy and offers many career opportunities. However, access to formal training and qualifications can be challenging, especially for previously disadvantaged individuals.
By offering this learnership, the PPRA not only helps develop skills in the property sector but also supports transformation and employment equity in the industry. The programme builds a pipeline of competent property practitioners who understand both the legal and practical aspects of real estate transactions.
For many young South Africans, especially those from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, this PPRA learnership is more than just training — it’s a gateway to a stable and rewarding career in real estate. The programme’s focus on combining employment with learning is ideal for those who want to gain hands-on experience while earning a qualification.
If you meet the requirements, are passionate about property, and want to take the next step in your career, don’t miss out on this opportunity. Remember to gather all your documents and send your application before the closing date of 3 June 2025.
