United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK) is offering two exciting internship opportunities for individuals looking to gain experience in the mining sector. These internships will provide essential skills and hands-on experience to help build a successful career in Mine Planning or Geotechnical Engineering.

1. Mine Planning Intern

Job Purpose:
This internship will provide exposure to large-scale open-pit mining operations. The incumbent will assist in scheduling and sequencing mining activities while ensuring compliance with the schedule.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/ Matric Certificate.
  • Diploma/Degree in Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Open Pit experience (advantageous).
  • Registered or eligible for registration with a recognized professional association.
  • Ability to meet technical and responsibility requirements of a Mining Engineer.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 08).
  • Certificate of fitness to work in a mining environment.

2. Geotechnical Intern

Job Purpose:
This internship will provide experience in Geotechnical Engineering, where the incumbent will assist the Strata Control Officer with implementing strata control functions, conducting audits, identifying hazards, and ensuring timely remedial action.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12/ Matric Certificate.
  • Diploma/Degree in Geology or Mining Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Open Pit experience (advantageous).
  • Registered or eligible for registration with a recognized professional association.
  • Ability to meet technical and responsibility requirements of a Mining Engineer.
  • Valid driver’s license (Code 08).
  • Certificate of fitness to work in a mining environment.
