TUT Counselling Psychology Internship Programme 2027

The Tshwane University of Technology Department of Student Development and Support is recruiting three Counselling Psychology interns for its Pretoria West Campus.

The 12-month internship will begin on 02 January 2027 and will provide successful candidates with supervised practical experience in student counselling, psycho-educational programmes, group work and community-based psychological support.

Interns will provide services to registered TUT students and children at a local children’s home while working as part of the Student Development and Support team.

Minimum Qualification Requirement

Applicants must:

  • Be registered as Master of Arts students in Counselling Psychology.
  • Be studying through a recognised university.
  • Submit a reference letter from a current M1 lecturer or supervisor.
  • Provide the required certified academic and personal documents.
  • Be available to begin the internship on 02 January 2027.

Applicants who are not currently registered for an MA in Counselling Psychology may not meet the minimum requirement.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Successful interns will be responsible for:

  • Providing professional counselling and therapy services to registered TUT students.
  • Supporting students’ academic and personal development.
  • Providing individual counselling.
  • Facilitating group counselling sessions.
  • Participating in psycho-educational activities.
  • Presenting life-skills classes.
  • Supporting awareness campaigns.

  • Developing social-media content.
  • Providing counselling services to children at a local children’s home.
  • Completing Student Development and Support administrative duties.
  • Working collaboratively with other team members.

Student Counselling Services

Interns will provide professional counselling and therapeutic support to registered students at the Pretoria West Campus.

This may include:

  • Conducting initial consultations.
  • Identifying student support needs.
  • Providing individual counselling.
  • Supporting students experiencing academic or personal challenges.
  • Referring students for additional support where necessary.
  • Maintaining appropriate counselling records.
  • Following professional ethical standards.
  • Protecting confidential student information.

Academic and Personal Development Support

The internship will involve helping students strengthen both their academic and personal skills.

Interns may assist students with:
