Purpose of the Role
The HR Intern will provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department while gaining practical exposure to HR processes and systems within a fast-paced laboratory and corporate environment. The internship is designed to develop foundational HR skills across recruitment, employee administration, payroll support, training coordination, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment & Onboarding
- Assist with posting vacancies on recruitment platforms.
- Screen CVs and schedule interviews.
- Coordinate candidate communication and interview logistics.
- Prepare onboarding documentation for new employees.
- Assist with employee induction and orientation processes.
HR Administration
- Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
- File and manage HR documentation in compliance with company procedures.
- Prepare employment contracts, letters, and HR correspondence.
- Assist with leave administration and attendance tracking.
Payroll & Employee Support
- Support payroll preparation by collecting and verifying employee information.
- Assist employees with HR-related queries and documentation requests.
- Ensure confidentiality of employee information at all times.
Training & Development
- Coordinate training sessions and maintain training records.
- Assist with tracking mandatory compliance training.
- Support employee wellness and engagement initiatives.
Compliance & Reporting
- Assist with maintaining compliance with labour legislation and company policies.
- Support Employment Equity and BBBEE administrative requirements.
- Compile basic HR reports and statistics when required.
- Promote adherence to company Health & Safety standards.
General
- Provide administrative support to the HR team as required.
- Participate in HR projects and process improvement initiatives.
- Uphold ALS core values and professional standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Diploma or Degree in:
- Human Resources Management,
- Industrial Psychology,
- Business Administration,
- or related field.
- Recent graduate or currently completing final year of studies.
- No prior work experience required.
- Previous internship or administrative experience will be advantageous.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
