Bursary Overview
The Standard Bank Group Bursary Programme is designed to promote academic excellence and shape the next generation of African talent and African leaders.
Undergraduate Bursary
The undergraduate bursary is specific to students that are on track to successfully complete their 1st year and require funding from their 2nd year of studies onwards. Applicants should be well-rounded with strong academic results in funded qualifications.
Postgraduate Bursary
The Standard Bank Group Bursary provides full-cost bursaries to financially deserving and academically sound students wishing to pursue postgraduate studies in the funded study fields.
Fields of study Covered by the Bursary:
Bursaries will be offerd in the following fields:
- Agriculture,
- Commerce,
- Engineering,
- Mathematics,
- Science (Actuarial, Analytics, Business, Computer, Data, Information),
- Statistics,
- Technology (Financial, Information)
- and the disciplines in the emerging field of Behavioural Economics (Economics, Behavioural Finance, Sociology, Psychology, Neuroscience).
What the Bursary Covers
The Bursary will cover the following:
- University fees.
- Accommodation – in a university residence or in private accommodation. Private accommodation costs will be subject to certain limits, to be explained to successful candidates upon the provisional bursary allocation.
- Meals – provided by the university or self-catering.
- Books and other study materials.
- A laptop computer.
- A monthly stipend to cover other living costs.
- Transport between home and campus 4 times a year at the cost of a bus ticket.
Requirements
Undergraduate students:
- You must have completed Matric
- You must be studying full-time towards an undergraduate qualification, within one of the fields listed above
- You must be entering your 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of study in 2027
- You must be studying at a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent examinations
- You must be in financial need
Postgraduate students:
- You must be studying full-time towards a postgraduate qualification (up to Master’s level), in one of the fields listed above
- You must be studying at a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa
- You must have a strong academic record
- You must have achieved a minimum overall average of 65% in your most recent examinations
- You must be in financial need
