Purpose of the Role

The HR Intern will provide administrative and operational support to the Human Resources department while gaining practical exposure to HR processes and systems within a fast-paced laboratory and corporate environment. The internship is designed to develop foundational HR skills across recruitment, employee administration, payroll support, training coordination, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Recruitment & Onboarding

  • Assist with posting vacancies on recruitment platforms.
  • Screen CVs and schedule interviews.
  • Coordinate candidate communication and interview logistics.
  • Prepare onboarding documentation for new employees.
  • Assist with employee induction and orientation processes.

HR Administration

  • Maintain accurate employee records and HR databases.
  • File and manage HR documentation in compliance with company procedures.
  • Prepare employment contracts, letters, and HR correspondence.
  • Assist with leave administration and attendance tracking.

Payroll & Employee Support

  • Support payroll preparation by collecting and verifying employee information.
  • Assist employees with HR-related queries and documentation requests.
  • Ensure confidentiality of employee information at all times.

Training & Development

  • Coordinate training sessions and maintain training records.
  • Assist with tracking mandatory compliance training.
  • Support employee wellness and engagement initiatives.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Assist with maintaining compliance with labour legislation and company policies.
  • Support Employment Equity and BBBEE administrative requirements.
  • Compile basic HR reports and statistics when required.
  • Promote adherence to company Health & Safety standards.

General

  • Provide administrative support to the HR team as required.
  • Participate in HR projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Uphold ALS core values and professional standards.

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Degree in:
  1. Human Resources Management,
  2. Industrial Psychology,
  3. Business Administration,
  4. or related field.
  • Recent graduate or currently completing final year of studies.
  • No prior work experience required.
  • Previous internship or administrative experience will be advantageous.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
  • Professional attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Interest in developing a career in Human Resources.
