Hortgro invites South African students to apply for its Bursary Programme for the 2026 academic year.

Fields of Study Funded

Bursaries will be awarded for studies in the following fields:

  • Agri-Management
  • Agricultural Biotechnology
  • Agricultural Economics
  • Agricultural Science
  • Entomology
  • Horticulture (Production/Post-Harvest)
  • Marketing Specialist
  • Microbiology
  • Plant Pathology
  • Project Management
  • Soil and Water Science

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Have completed Matric, or currently be in Matric
  • Be studying or intend to study in one of the above-listed fields in 2026
  • Be enrolled at or applying to a recognised South African tertiary institution
  • Meet admission requirements for the chosen qualification

What the Bursary Covers and Expects

  • Renewable annually based on academic performance
  • Mentorship support will be provided
  • Recipients must:
    • Submit quarterly study and well-being updates
    • Provide semester results
    • Maintain good conduct
    • Attend Hortgro functions

Required Supporting Documents (if shortlisted)

  • Certified ID or both sides of your ID card
  • Certified copy of Matric certificate or latest results
  • Certified academic transcript (if already at tertiary level)
  • Proof of tertiary registration
  • Estimated study cost breakdown (tuition, books, accommodation)
  • Certified IDs of parents/guardians
  • Proof of parents/guardians’ income (payslips or affidavit)
  • Proof of any other financial aid (if applicable)
  • Essay: about yourself, your career plans, and your vision in agriculture (handwritten in the application)
  • 2 contactable references
