Introduction
The successful candidate will join JSE Investor Services (JIS) on a 06 months contract to collaborate closely with software engineering teams and stakeholders to gather, analyse, and document business requirements, ensuring that software solutions developed align with business objectives and effectively address stakeholders’ needs. This role operates at a junior to mid level, requiring strong analytical skills, communication abilities, and a deep understanding of both business processes and software development.
Job description
As a successful candidate, you will be respibsible for the below:
- Data analysis and reporting
- Understanding business requirements and documenting, validating and translating into functional specifications, change request documents or any other documents required by the development team
- Creating project documentation
- Documenting business processes
- Attend to incidents and/or requests raised via our bug/change tracking system. Follow-up and ensure completion of tasks
- Participate in the guidance and liaison with users to gain an understanding of required modifications to existing applications, or new applications and post implementation deployment support.
- Solution proposal and new ideas to use technology efficiently
- Involvement in testing (SIT, UAT etc.) including creating test cases.
- Creation of release notes, training material and training
- Assist the Operations Managers and Executives with any requests
- Assist Management with any ADHOC requests from time to time
Minimum requirements
Minimum Qualification
- Diploma
- Certificate in IT or Business Analysis or Administration
Minimum Experience
- 1 – 3 years’ experience in financial services
Knowledge and Skills required
- Proven experience as a business analyst in software development projects, preferably within the financial services industry, with a strong understanding of a variety of technologies.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to understand complex business processes, identify requirements, and propose solutions that effectively to meet stakeholder needs.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels of the organization and communicate technical concepts clearly.
- Proficiency in requirement elicitation techniques, such as workshops, interviews, and surveys, and experience with requirements management tools within the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Knowledge of software development methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, or Kanban, and experience working in Agile environments.

Job description
To develop, deploy, and maintain BI and analytical solutions using the relevant query tools, data visualization & interactive dashboards, ad hoc reporting, and data modelling tools, thereby transforming data into knowledge for business / client use.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Business Intelligence Development
- Translate business needs into technical BI Solutions.
- Design, build and deploy BI solutions using Microsoft Azure and PowerBI stack:
- Participate in data warehouse design.
- Design & implement the data model which will result in the curation of the data in a manner which supports self-service Business Intelligence.
- Build the necessary ETL jobs using Synapse Analytics.
- Build tabular cubes utilizing MDX and DAX languages.
- Build and deploy reports using PowerBI Paginated reports (or SSRS).
- Design user-friendly, rich, and compelling PowerBI Reports and Dashboards.
- Define technical tasks to deliver solutions.
- Conduct unit testing and troubleshooting.
- Maintain and support data analytics solutions.
- Validate that BI Solution Data flows accurately sync into Microsoft Purview; and link the Data Glossary terms to technical asset on Purview.
- Collaborate with relevant teams to build solutions.
- Create and update technical documentation.
Process Efficiency
- Actively look for improvements in the current set-up of analytical products, processes and team collaboration and performance.
- Deliver or facilitate the delivery of client ad hoc queries.
- Support Research Analysts with relevant data for ad hoc client queries and insights.
- Acquire and maintain a broad base of knowledge and experience with current trends in BI, reporting and analytics.
- Improvement opportunities monitored – conclusions and findings applied to improve or benefit business.
- Deliver or facilitate the delivery of ad hoc queries.
Project Management
- Ensure all tasks are logged and updated on the Kanban board.
- Contribute to all phases of the project including planning, capacity allocation and schedule tracking.
- Provide project-specific subject matter expertise for a specific technical deliverable.
- Adhere to the project management methodology and rituals defined within the team.

Compliance
- Maintain and improve quality results by adhering to standards and guidelines and recommending improved procedures.
- Operate within controls and procedures to ensure the integrity of the JSE Information Services.
- Maintain compliance with all pertinent regulations and procedures to avoid fruitless, wasteful, and irregular expenditure.
- Identify and report risks or areas of concern to management within the area of responsibility.
Customer Service
- Address stakeholder business challenges by using data and providing new analytical solutions.
- Continuously share information and present solutions to team and Architects and keep stakeholders informed regarding progress of solutions.
- Maintain effective working relationships with customers (both internal and external) towards rendering highest quality of services.
- Identify and solve problems whilst demonstrating a high level of integrity in line with the JSE Information Services core values.
- Ensure the provision of high-quality service to all external and internal clients.
- Information shared with team, Architects, and stakeholders to maintain contact and open communication lines to ensure efficient solution delivery.
Cost Control
- Promote the effective and transparent use of Business Intelligence resources.
- Explore opportunities to control and reduce costs (especially for Microsoft Azure and PowerBI).
Minimum requirements
Qualification:
- BSc Computer Science or Information Technology.
Experience:
- 5 years of experience in a similar role.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Data modelling.
- Microsoft Azure and PowerBI Stack.
- Database design principles using normalization and standard methodologies.
- Agile project management methodologies.
- Business Intelligence (BI) Solution Design.
