The Commission for Gender Equality (CGE) invites suitably qualified South African graduates to apply for its 24-month Internship Programme 2026 in Policy and Research, Legal Services, Human Resources, Public Education and Information, and Monitoring and Evaluation.

The Commission for Gender Equality is offering several graduate internship opportunities on 24-month contracts.

The internships are intended for South African graduates who have not previously participated in an internship programme and who meet the qualification requirements for the relevant field.

Policy & Research Internship Programme

Contract: 24 months
Centre: Head Office, Johannesburg
Stipend: R8,500 per month

Applicants must have:

  • Master of Arts Degree in Social Sciences or another relevant Social Sciences discipline.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Willingness to travel extensively throughout South Africa for research.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Excellent analytical and report-writing skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
  • South African citizenship.

Applicants must not have previously participated in an internship programme.

Legal Internship Programme

Contract: 24 months
Centre: Head Office, Johannesburg
Stipend: R8,500 per month

Applicants must hold one of the following:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB).
  • BA Law.
  • BCom Law.

Applicants should also have:

  • Excellent legal research skills.
  • Legal drafting skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Applicants must be South African citizens and must not have previously participated in an internship programme.

Human Resource Internship Programme

Contract: 24 months
Centre: Head Office, Johannesburg
Stipend: R7,500 per month

Applicants must hold an NQF Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Human Resource Management.
  • Industrial Psychology.
  • An equivalent qualification.

Knowledge and understanding of legislation such as the BCEA, LRA, EEA and OHSA is required.

Applicants should also demonstrate strong communication skills, attention to detail, confidentiality and computer literacy.

Public Education & Information Internship Programme

Contract: 24 months
Centre: Pretoria, Gauteng
Stipend: R7,500 per month

Applicants must hold an NQF Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Social Sciences.
  • Humanities.
  • Gender Studies.
  • Education.
  • An equivalent field.

Applicants should have:

  • Microsoft Office proficiency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Digital communication capability.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Applicants must be South African citizens and must not have previously participated in an internship programme.

Monitoring and Evaluation Internship Programme

Contract: 24 months
Centre: Head Office, Johannesburg
Stipend: R7,500 per month

Applicants must hold an NQF Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Honours/Master’s qualification in fields such as:

  • Monitoring and Evaluation.
  • Statistics.
  • Public Administration.
  • Administration.
  • Public Management.
  • Information Management.
  • Social Sciences.

Applicants should also have proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Word, Access, Excel, MS Project, Power BI, PowerPoint and Outlook.

Important Placement Note

The supplied advert lists the Public Education & Information Internship centre as Pretoria, while a later general note states that interns will be placed at the CGE Head Office in Braamfontein.

Because these two statements are not fully consistent, applicants for the Public Education & Information position should confirm the final placement with CGE if location is important to their application.
