Jacaranda FM, in partnership with community radio station Voice of Wits (VowFM), invites South African unemployed journalism graduates to apply for the 12-month News Internship Programme 2025/2026.

About the Internship
This internship offers an opportunity to acquire hands-on radio broadcast and newsroom experience between 1 July 2025 and 30 June 2026.
Interns will rotate between Jacaranda FM (Midrand) and VowFM (Wits University, Johannesburg) every six weeks and must be willing to travel between the two stations. The programme includes attendance at various short courses offered by the Wits Radio Academy and provides a monthly basic stipend.
What You’ll Learn
At Jacaranda FM:
- General newsroom operations
- Assisting journalists with story compilation
- Field reporting and news desk experience
- Practical exposure in different areas of the news department
At VowFM:
- Reading and compiling news bulletins
- Reporting from the field
- Packaging content for current affairs
- Participating in news and current affairs programming
- Updating social media with news content
- Completion of short courses with Wits Radio Academy
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s Degree or 3-year National Diploma in Journalism or a related field
- Valid driver’s licence (or currently in the process of obtaining one)
- Excellent command of English; bilingualism in Afrikaans and English is an advantage
- Competence in writing and voicing radio scripts
- Strong fact-checking and quality control skills
- Basic experience in using field/studio production and recording equipment
- Basic editing and multi-track mixing experience
