Job Purpose

To provide actuarial solutions to internal and external stakeholders within the Corporate Actuarial team, supporting Nedbank Insurance’s strategic objectives and in line with Nedbank’s Client Value Proposition.

Job Responsibilities

As the successful candidate, you will:

  • Assist with the completion of monthly IFRS reserving results for insurance licences.
  • Support the preparation of quarterly and annual SAM returns.
  • Investigate actuarial results to identify trends, anomalies, and emerging issues.
  • Contribute to actuarial basis setting exercises.
  • Assist with the actuarial components of the Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA) process.
  • Participate in the annual forecasting and planning process.
  • Support the automation and enhancement of existing actuarial processes to improve operational efficiency.
  • Document actuarial methodologies, processes, and controls.
  • Prepare and communicate actuarial results and insights to actuarial management.
  • Actively contribute as a collaborative member of the Corporate Actuarial team.
  • Participate in initiatives that support Nedbank’s culture, transformation, and employee engagement objectives.
  • Share knowledge, industry developments, and best practices with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Complete personal development and learning activities within agreed timelines

Requirements

  • Matric / National Senior Certificate / Grade 12
  • Bachelor of Commerce in Actuarial Science / Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science / B.Degree in Statistics or Mathematics
  • 0 – 1 year actuarial experience.
  • Minimum 4 actuarial exams completed (ASSA preferred).

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Numerical accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex actuarial information clearly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Planning and organising capability.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other actuarial modelling tools.
  • Interest in process improvement, automation, and innovation.
