About the Internship
The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) is seeking a motivated and adaptable intern to support the GBVF Directorate in administration, stakeholder coordination, and information management. This internship offers a hands-on learning experience with a focus on gender-based violence prevention and response in South Africa.
Interns will report directly to the Gender M&E Analyst, contributing to UNFPA’s strategic objectives of ending preventable maternal deaths, unmet need for family planning, and gender-based violence.
Key Responsibilities:
Information and Data Support:
- Maintain and update the GBVF information repository
- Catalogue reports and resources from civil society, government, and partners
- Track data usage and manage related requests
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Maintain the stakeholder engagement spreadsheet (contact info, contributions, etc.)
- Verify and update data quarterly
Meeting and Event Coordination:
- Schedule stakeholder and partner meetings
- Assist with agendas, minutes, and tracking follow-ups
- Provide logistical support for workshops and consultations
Project Tracking:
- Scan online for GBVF-related projects in South Africa
- Attend virtual meetings and document key points
- Monitor and share progress on internal projects
Eligibility Criteria:
Educational Requirements:
Applicants must meet one of the following:
- Enrolled in a Bachelor’s programme and completed at least one year
- Enrolled in a postgraduate programme (e.g., Master’s)
- Recently graduated (within 12 months)
- Enrolled in a postgraduate trainee programme as part of their studies
Other Requirements:
- Demonstrated interest in development and gender equality
- Proficiency in English (written and spoken)
- Ability to adapt and work in diverse cultural environments
- Experience with development agencies or volunteering is an advantage
- Strong writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills
Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the internship, participants will:
- Understand UNFPA’s structure, governance, and programme design
- Gain insight into GBVF programme delivery in South Africa
- Learn UN working procedures, communication systems, and policy frameworks
- Gain real-world experience working in a multicultural international environment
