Overview of the Internship Programme

The University of the Free State (UFS) is offering 7 internship positions under the Graduation Positioning Support (GPS) programme.

This internship is aimed at supporting student success through advising, tutoring, and data-driven student support initiatives. Successful candidates will gain hands-on experience in academic support, research, and student engagement within a university environment.


Internship Programme Details

  • Position: GPS Success Coaches Intern (x7)
  • Job ID: 6417
  • Duration: 12 months (contract)
  • Location: Bloemfontein Campus
  • Monthly Stipend: R9,497.50
  • Start Date: 01 June 2026
  • Closing Date: 10 April 2026

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or B-Tech Degree (NQF Level 7)

Inherent Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year relevant experience as:
    • Tutor
    • Student assistant
    • Teaching assistant
    • Participation in student leadership programmes

Additional Selection Criteria

Applicants must:

  • Not be currently participating in another internship or learnership
  • Not have previous formal work experience
  • Be willing to sign an internship agreement
  • Be available for the full 12-month period

Recommended Qualifications and Skills

  • Honours Degree (NQF Level 8)
  • Knowledge of teaching and learning support
  • Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills

Key Responsibilities

Successful interns will:

  • Provide support via calls, emails, and messages to students
  • Assist with student tracking and support initiatives
  • Capture and manage student data and reports
  • Conduct research and support academic projects
  • Provide tutoring and advising support
  • Participate in training and development programmes
