About the Internship

Wembley College, an esteemed independent school nestled in the picturesque hills of Greytown in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, is offering an exciting internship opportunity within its prestigious Wembley Equestrian Academy.

This hands-on internship will give you the opportunity to work closely with experienced equestrian professionals, gaining practical experience in horse care, grooming, stable maintenance, and riding instruction. It’s an ideal role for someone passionate about equines and considering a career in equestrian management or instruction.

Responsibilities

As an equestrian intern, your key duties will include:

  • Handling, grooming, and monitoring horses
  • Lunging and basic schooling of horses
  • Maintaining tack, stable yard, paddocks, and surrounding facilities
  • Feeding and turnout of horses
  • Assisting during riding sessions and show preparation
  • Giving riding lessons under supervision
  • Supporting the equestrian manager during vet and farrier visits
  • Maintaining cleanliness and safety standards across the yard

Requirements

To qualify for this internship, candidates must:

  • Have a qualification in Equine Science or be studying towards one
  • OR hold EQASA certifications or be working toward them
  • Be fluent in English or Afrikaans
  • Have 2-3 years of experience in an equine-related setup
  • driver’s licence will be an added advantage

You will also be expected to demonstrate a high level of professionalism, punctuality, responsibility, and the ability to work weekends when required.
