Amazon Development Centre South Africa, in partnership with StudyTrust, invites talented and ambitious students from previously disadvantaged backgrounds to apply for the Amazon Recruitment Bursary 2026
Bursary Application Closing Date: 30 September 2025
This bursary offers not only comprehensive funding for studies in technology-related fields but also a paid internship at Amazon—an opportunity to be assessed for a full-time Software Development Engineer (SDE) position.
Fields of Study Eligible
Students must be enrolled in:
- Computer Science
- Computer Engineering
- Software Engineering
- Information Technology
- Information Systems
- Data Science, Machine Learning, or Artificial Intelligence
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens
- Be enrolled at a South African university
- Be entering the final year of a 3-year degree OR the third year of a 4-year degree in 2026
- Intend to pursue Honours (NQF Level 8) in 2027
- Not be studying at Master’s level
- Achieve a minimum average of 65%
- Be available to start full-time employment with Amazon in January 2028, if offered
- Be passionate about software development and Amazon’s work culture
Bursary Benefits
Amazon will cover capped costs for:
- Tuition fees
- Residence or private accommodation
- Meals and transport
- Stationery and textbooks
- Personal laptop
- Monthly living allowance
Internship Opportunity
All bursary recipients will:
- Participate in a paid summer internship at Amazon
- Be evaluated for a full-time SDE role upon graduation
- Gain hands-on experience solving global tech challenges in areas such as distributed systems, automation, and security
- Attend training workshops and networking events during the internship
Obligations
- Must complete the Amazon internship during summer vacation
- Must be open to accepting a permanent role with Amazon equal to the years of bursary funding received, if offered
