The Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) invites qualifying South African students to apply for the AGSA Bursary Programme for the 2027 academic year.

Bursary Location: SAICA-accredited universities in South Africa

The bursary supports students from Matric level through to postgraduate CTA studies.

Successful bursary recipients are expected to complete their articles through a training contract with AGSA after graduation.

General Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens.
  • Be currently in Matric or have completed Matric.
  • Be studying or intending to study full-time towards an approved Chartered Accountancy qualification.
  • Study or intend to study at a SAICA-accredited university.

Additional academic requirements apply depending on the applicant’s current year of study.

Requirements for Matric Students

Applicants currently in Matric and planning to enter first year in 2027 must:

  • Obtain Matric exemption with university entrance.
  • Achieve at least 60% in Mathematics.
  • Mathematics Literacy is not accepted.
  • Achieve at least 60% in English.
  • Be entering first year in 2027.
  • Intend to study towards an approved CA-stream qualification.

Requirements for First-Year University Students

Students applying to enter second year in 2027 must:

  • Achieve at least 60% in Financial Accounting.
  • Have achieved at least 60% in Mathematics in Matric.
  • Have achieved at least 60% in English in Matric.
  • Be studying towards an approved Chartered Accountancy qualification.
  • Be entering second year in 2027.

Requirements for Second-Year University Students

Students applying to enter third year in 2027 must:

  • Achieve at least 60% in Financial Accounting.
  • Achieve at least 60% in Management Accounting.
  • Be studying towards an approved Chartered Accountancy qualification.
  • Be entering third year in 2027.

Requirements for Final-Year Students

Final-year students applying for postgraduate studies in 2027 must:

  • Achieve at least 55% in all core modules.
  • Be studying towards an approved Chartered Accountancy qualification.
  • Be entering postgraduate studies in 2027.
  • Have been accepted into a CTA programme.
