The Central Karoo District Municipality invites suitably qualified South African unemployed graduates to apply for the Financial Intern (2 positions) under the Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP).

This is a structured 2-year fixed-term internship aimed at providing high-quality training and practical exposure within a Municipal Budget and Treasury Office, in line with the MFMA, Act 56 of 2003.

Internship Overview (MFMIP)

The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) is a nationally recognised professional training initiative designed to:

  • Provide practical exposure in all aspects of municipal finance
  • Develop skills in budgeting, treasury operations, and financial management
  • Build capacity within local government financial management structures
  • Prepare interns for careers governed by the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA)

Required Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • three-year Degree or National Diploma with majors in:
    • Accounting
    • Economics
    • Finance
    • Risk Management
    • Auditing
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills in English and Afrikaans
  • Computer literacy with knowledge of Windows and spreadsheet applications
  • valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage
  • Must be between 21 and 35 years of age
  • Preference will be given to:
    • Candidates from the Central Karoo Region (proof of address required)
    • Candidates who have not previously participated in an internship programme
