Internship Overview

Are you someone interested in turning a finished story into everything it needs to be: a sharp script, a clean vertical cutdown, a quote card? Daily Maverick’s multimedia team is looking for a production assistant intern to work alongside us on every stage of getting our video and social content into the world: research, scripting, fact-checking, social production, and publishing.

You will be working with stories and material that already exist, not generating your own coverage.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Prep: for every story entering production, pull together the background, source links and archive material the team needs.
• Script: check first-pass video scripts off the original story, refined through your editor’s feedback.
• Fact-check: check scripts and on-screen text against the source before anything goes into edit/ publication; accuracy is non-negotiable.
• Produce: turn finished videos into a spread of social content (cutdowns, vertical clips, quote cards, captioned stills) using Canva and Adobe Premiere/ DaVinci Resolve.
• Publish & track: manage posting across our social channels and track the data behind every post properly, building a real, practical sense of how the platforms and algorithms work.
• Research for documentaries: gather background, archival material and sourcing for our longer-form documentary projects.
• Refresh the archive: repackage and update older video content for social.

Requirements

• Proficient in Canva or other design tools, with working knowledge of Adobe Premiere or DaVinci Resolve.
• Strong writing skills and an eye for detail that catches what others miss.
• Great organisational skills.
• Genuine curiosity about how social platforms and algorithms work, and an interest in using AI as a tool, not a shortcut.
• Comfortable running with a week’s work independently.
