Internship Overview
Garlicke & Bousfield Inc. a leading law firm in Umhlanga, invites applications from suitably qualified, unemployed law graduates to participate in its 2027 Graduate Workplace Experience Programme under the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme.
The YES Programme is a South African government initiative aimed at addressing youth unemployment by providing 12-month fixed-term work placements to unemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 35. Through this initiative, participants gain meaningful workplace experience, develop practical skills, and improve their future employability.
As part of this programme, successful applicants will be appointed as a Legal Graduate Intern and will gain valuable exposure to the legal profession while working alongside experienced legal practitioners within a law firm.
Programme Details:
- Position: Legal Graduate Intern
- Commencement Date: January 2027
- Duration: 12-month Fixed-Term Contract
- Location: Umhlanga, KwaZulu-Natal
- Remuneration: In accordance with the gazetted minimum wage and YES Programme guidelines.

Please note that this programme is separate from Garlicke & Bousfield Inc’s Candidate Attorney Programme. Participation in the programme does not constitute articles of clerkship, does not fulfil the requirements for admission as an attorney, and does not guarantee placement or future employment as a Candidate Attorney with Garlicke & Bousfield upon completion of the programme.

Minimum Requirements:
- Applicants must have completed, or be on track to complete, their LLB degree by no later than December 2026.
- Be currently unemployed and seeking an opportunity to gain workplace experience within the legal profession.
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35 years.
- Have not previously participated in the YES Programme.
- Be a South African citizen.
- Reside in or around Durban and be able to commute to Umhlanga daily.
- Possess good written and verbal communication skills.
- Be computer literate, with a working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
