Transnet Freight Rail is seeking a dedicated IT Support Analyst to join its dynamic team in Bellville, South Africa. This role offers a unique opportunity for an experienced IT professional to provide technical support, ensuring seamless operations within Transnet’s extensive IT infrastructure.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of the Senior Specialist: Contract & Assets Manager and will be responsible for maintaining and improving the organization’s IT systems.
Key Responsibilities
The IT Support Analyst will serve as the primary contact for end-users requiring technical assistance across multiple Transnet sites. This role involves diagnosing and resolving software and hardware issues, installing new systems, and upgrading existing IT infrastructure. The responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- System Uptime Management – Ensuring reliable access to network, internet, email, and business applications.
- End-User Support – Providing hands-on assistance for desktops, servers, printers, and multimedia systems.
- Data Backup & Recovery – Managing data backups on laptops, mobile devices, and small systems.
- ICT Security – Implementing security measures to safeguard Transnet’s IT assets.
- Equipment Procurement & Maintenance – Managing the repair and replacement of IT hardware to minimize downtime.
- Software & Hardware Testing – Conducting quality assurance testing and research on new IT solutions.
- Training & Communication – Sharing system downtime alerts and IT tips with employees.
- Video Conferencing & Digital Signage Support – Setting up and troubleshooting conferencing equipment for meetings and presentations.
- Project Management – Leading minor ICT projects across business units.
- Third-Party Support Management – Coordinating with external service providers to ensure smooth IT operations.
- Inventory & Capacity Planning – Tracking software licenses, monitoring disk usage, and managing IT loan equipment.
Qualifications and Experience
To be eligible for this role, candidates must possess:
- A three-year diploma in Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
- A National/Advanced Diploma (NQF 6/7) is advantageous.
- Industry certifications such as A+ and N+.
- A minimum of five years of experience in desktop support, particularly working with brands like Lenovo, HP, Dell, Acer, or Asus.
- An ITIL Foundation Certification is preferred but not mandatory.
Job Requirements
- A valid Code 08 driver’s license and access to personal transport are highly desirable.
- Willingness to travel to various Transnet sites.
- Occasional travel outside South Africa may be required.
